Cookies
Every year, Captain's family gets together and makes cookies for one whole day. We make, bake, mix and drool over hundreds of cookies. Literally hundreds. This year we had over 200 of ONE kind of cookie. Somehow no one ever thinks to "oops, I doubled it" to the bourbon ball recipe. I'll have to look into that next year...
Fudge, cookies, candied pecans, chex mix, cookies ... even doggie cookies! We give them away as gifts to friends and neighbors (and our tummies).
Making cookies is just a solid Christmas tradition. Itchy is usually with me in the kitchen helping me measure, sift, mix and spoon out while Scratchy lurks in nearby rooms, unwilling to do the work but more than willing to eat the dough. There is just something about the smell of cookies that makes it all make sense.
Even though we have cookies at home. Santa always gets a fresh batch made just for him on Christmas Eve. To me, Christmas smells like cookies. And plastic pine trees.
